Cover Reveal! To Tame a Wild Heart

I’m so excited to reveal the cover of my next book in the Zyne Legacy series – the first stand-alone romance set in this world. My favorite aspect of this story is getting to delve deeper into the workings of the Zyne Synod and especially the Hohlwen (immortal wraiths/fallen angels that serve the Synod). Of course, there’s plenty of magic, action, and romance too. 😉

To Tame a Wild Heart will be released later this summer!

Blurb:

Nomad and desperado Audrey Taylor has carved a living out of society’s fringe using her supernatural abilities and the wisdom of her truck-driver surrogate mother.  Sleeping beneath the open skies and under the radar is all she’s ever needed.  But when an ancient council of witches discovers her powers, Audrey is forced to submit to their control or end up stripped of her gifts and her memories.  Audrey knows better than to rely on or trust anyone and she’s never worked well with others, so it’s just her luck to be assigned the withdrawn and irritable falconer as her mentor.  Even more disturbing is her desire to penetrate his brooding façade and know the man underneath.

Corvin Wright has dedicated his life to the service of the Synod in the hopes of proving himself worthy of his family name.  He values the solace of his duties and finds peace alone among the birds trusted to his keeping, but the Council no longer sees a use for his unique gifts.  His sanctuary is in danger unless he can earn his place by babysitting one of the fledgling witches brought to train in the magical arts.  The task is more daunting than expected when his assigned student turns out to be wilder and more broken than any creature he’s ever cared for.  Her spitfire spirit and dangerous beauty challenge every ideal of the life he thought he wanted, and while Audrey wrestles against her captivity and the bonds of responsibility laid upon her, Corvin searches for a way to tame her wild heart before she breaks them both.

Fiction Friday: Illuminated

This is an “added scene” that takes place several months before the events in Skydancer Book 1. Astrid is one of my favorites, and I look forward to telling more of her story as the series expands. For a glimpse into the world of the Zyne Legacy, including what all of the characters look like (as children and adults), visit my Rain of Ash Pinterest Board.

Astrid wasn’t an Oracle. She’d only studied the basics of divination, and even that was sketchy. Still, she thought, zigzagging her way down the jagged hillside to the beach, it was Ostara – the Spring Equinox. For the briefest of moments, her little part of the earth would be cast in equal parts light and shadow. For the briefest of moments, the energies of the Conduit would be in perfect balance. If she was lucky – and prepared, which she was – she could maybe get a tiny glimpse of the future.

A Simple Home Cleansing & Blessing Ritual

home-blessingI’ve moved almost twenty times. Most recently, I moved into a new house that I will be leasing with my boyfriend for the next two years. Upon getting the keys, my first instinct was to go there and do my usual home blessing. Of course, this was odd to my excruciatingly pragmatic boyfriend, so I found myself explaining it to him. I expected him to laugh at me, or at least give me that “I don’t really understand you but I love you anyway” look. Instead, he listened, and when I was through, he said, “You should do that. I want our home to be blessed.”

Which was a lesson to me – if you take the time to explain the intention behind something, almost everyone will appreciate a blessing, prayer, good wishes, etc. So I thought I would share my simple ritual that I repeat every time I claim a new space as my home. It is a mish-mash of traditions handed down by my mother, Feng Shui, and my own twist relying heavily on the four elements.

Draft Faster and Cleaner with a Writing Notebook

WW-Pinterest

Whew! What a whirlwind the past month has been. The weather has been blessedly warm and dry here in Seattle, so I’ve taken every opportunity to go outside and soak up the rays, because who knows when the sun will wander back behind the Shroud of Eternal Grey? Between that and moving (on short notice), quality butt-in-chair writing time has been hard to come by. I didn’t want to lug my giant laptop outside, and with my home in disarray, it has been very hard to focus.

Which is why I am SO glad that about three months ago, I started writing in a notebook. I’m not talking about a handy little “idea book” to jot down notes. I mean that I have a full size spiral notebook that contains my ENTIRE WIP. I’ve written the last 20K words longhand, and am a total convert. This post will give you a few reasons you might want to try it too, and a couple of tips I’ve learned through trial and error.

Mystic Monday: The Quickening Moon

mystic-monday

Whether you are tuned in to the lunar energies or not, tonight’s full moon is an auspicious one. The Quickening Moon, in druid tradition, only occurs every four years, when there are 13 full moons in a solar cycle. In other traditions, it always follows directly on the heels of Imbolc, the festival that celebrates the return of the sun. The energies for this moon are those of seeds readying to burst forth into the imminent Spring. This can manifest in many ways, such as bringing forth new ideas, reaching for new goals, forming new relationships, transformations, shedding old layers, or finally seeing the light at the end of a long and dark inward journey.

This (leap)year, the Quickening Moon takes place in the sign of Virgo – an intellectual, practical, and methodical sign. Virgo energy is about order, and most Virgos tend to be planners and make lists. The full moon is always a time for manifestation, but because this is a “bonus” moon, it is often used as a moment to pause and reflect before charging into the rest of the year ahead. Tapping in to the that Virgo energy, some good questions that might come up for reflection are:

Am I on the right path?

Do I really want what I’ve set my sights on?

Have I made all the preparations I can to make the path ahead clear and easy?

Is there anything still holding me back? If so, what can I release?

According to Kate Rose, this full moon will also be a culminating of energies set into motion months, or even years ago. The main point is that our hearts and souls are yearning for something – we have either gone inwards in search of it or have laid out plans to achieve it, and now is the final moment where we decide if we are truly committed to it. Once the seed germinates in the earth, there is no turning back to burrow into the ground again – it’s sun or bust!

Whether you are a practicing witch or just beginning to feel in to how the cosmic tides affect your life, I hope you make the most of this powerful moon. See you on the other side. 🙂
