2017 Intention: Lighting the Creative Fire

This year, as compared to last, my holiday season was back to the normal crazy. I much prefer it the way we did it last year — a 5 day escape to the winter wonderland that is Whistler, BC. Instead, we hosted family in our new home this year, which was its own kind of special. Especially with the flu hitting us hard the week of Christmas. So, I didn’t have time to do my traditional solstice ritual and meditation. And yet it still came to me, as soon as I was nestled in bed on Solstice night. Whispered by the voice deep within, which I’ve admittedly been remiss at…

Fall Writing Update – Through the Fog

If you’ve been following along, you know that my next book is way beyond past due. I was planning to have it ready in June, July, August, and September (at which time I had to give up the ghost and accept it was going to be longer). There were too many other things going on that needed my attention this year, and my focus and energy were just sapped. The last several months have felt like a dream, and not a particularly good one. And yes, I’m talking about the election.

    Summer Writing Update

Where has the summer gone!?!? I find myself asking this question yet again, despite the fact that every year I vow to make the most out of the sparkling gem that is a Pacific Northwest summer. They are brief, but breathtaking. The last few months have been a whirlwind of moving, settling, socializing, and taking part in a beautiful wedding of a dear friend. My lover has been working OT like he’s saving for the end of the world, and I’ve been hoarding what time I have to myself to focus on my upcoming release and decompress.

Draft Faster and Cleaner with a Writing Notebook

Whew! What a whirlwind the past month has been. The weather has been blessedly warm and dry here in Seattle, so I’ve taken every opportunity to go outside and soak up the rays, because who knows when the sun will wander back behind the Shroud of Eternal Grey? Between that and moving (on short notice), quality butt-in-chair writing time has been hard to come by. I didn’t want to lug my giant laptop outside, and with my home in disarray, it has been very hard to focus. Which is why I am SO glad that about three months ago, I started writing in a notebook. I’m not talking about a…

    Writing Wednesday: Trust the Process

Every Winter Solstice, I set an intention for the solar year to come. This year, my intention was balance, and so far so good, I think, but there’s been another lesson/struggle that keeps coming up along with it. What I’ve figured out, is if you want balance, what you really need is ACCEPTANCE and PATIENCE. You have to be able to accept things as they are right now, and even in the act of striving for better balance, you have to be patient with how it comes about.

    Winter Solstice Intention: Balance

I’m a little late in posting this, but every year I set an intention for the coming solar year on the Winter Solstice. Last year, my intention was growth, and it was definitely a year of growth and expansion in many ways!  I have a tendency to beat myself up about not meeting all of my other secondary and tertiary goals – there are MANY – so I wanted to take a moment to publicly pat myself on the back before I dive into my intention for this year.
