I took a much-needed vacation in mid-November and once I came back, it was as if the wind had gone out of my sails. Not in a bad way! Actually it would be more accurate to say that instead of the hurricane frenzy I left in, I came back riding a nice subtle breeze. So rather than try to gear up for a big push at the end of the year, I decided to just relax and let things flow. Continue reading “Winter Writing Update”
Wow, this summer is flying by!
Maybe that’s par for the course when I have a new release, and I’m kinda digging that I’m staying so busy (it helps keep me focused) but also a little worried as my deadline for my next book is approaching a lot faster than my word count is growing (eep!). But, I have had a LOT of stuff going on, and August is going to be a writing month for me, with as little distractions as possible.
Quick Summer Re-Cap:
- Wild Heart had a fabulous release, and spent over 30 days on the top 100 list for my category!
- Rain of Ash got a new cover and also spent some time on the top 100 lists
- Signed an audio deal for Rain of Ash – I’m so excited to share more soon!!!
- Discovered #Bookstagram (and spent at least a weeks pay on books and props)
- I’ve read at least 3 books that are review/recommendation worthy (will post those soonish)
Still to Come:
- An EPIC August TBR Pile
- To Tame a Wild Heart Blog Tour: Aug 21-26th
- Skydancer Book 2 (Veil of Thorns) Cover Reveal
- Zyne book paperback releases (and giveaway!)
I have some pretty exciting plans for this fall too, but I’ll save those for another post. On to ALL THE BOOKS…
What is #bookstagram? you may be wondering. Or, if not, I’m still gonna tell you.
Bookstagram is an online community of readers who are connected on Instagram. Basically, we take pretty pictures of pretty books, fandom merch, and other bookish things, and discuss books with each other. So, two of my favorite things, really.
I was made for this.
Once I discovered it, I instantly felt like I FOUND MY TRIBE. Bookworms…I knew I was one, I just didn’t know where the super-secret clubhouse was. There is always something to see, share, or participate in, and the community is so welcoming. I’ve even already made some local friends and right now I’m doing a BUDDY READ… did you know a buddy read was even a thing!?!? I didn’t. But, it’s basically a one-on-one or small group book club for introverts (no leaving your reading nest). Like I said, these are my people! The bookstagram community is also extremely generous. There are tons of giveaways, follow-trains, challenges, and shout-outs.
And. The. Merch.
So much merch. I had no idea. I’ve been on the author train for a while, and I knew that most authors print up bookmarks or postcards, but it seemed like the sort of thing you only hand out at conferences, and thus a waste for me. Not so. Bookstagram is all about fandoms and collecting as much bookish stuff as you can and then displaying it.
I’m so inspired by all the bookish merch and fandom goodies and all the amazingly talented creativpreneurs I’ve discovered on Booksta. In fact, I have some plans in the coming months to put together some of my own giveaways, including custom-made Zyne Legacy merch that I am so frickin excited about. So, stay tuned. rubs hands in glee

I hope you have an amazing rest of your summer–happy reading!
It’s my hope to release books 2 and 3 of the Skydancer series in the next 9 months, so I decided to order the covers in bulk, and that means Rain of Ash got a gorgeous new facelift just in time for its 2-year birthday. I’m SO THRILLED! Once again, the folks at Deranged Doctor Design knocked it out of the park. I’ll be doing the cover reveals for books 2 and 3 as we get closer to release.
Sigh… I could look at it all day. 😀
This year, as compared to last, my holiday season was back to the normal crazy. I much prefer it the way we did it last year — a 5 day escape to the winter wonderland that is Whistler, BC. Instead, we hosted family in our new home this year, which was its own kind of special. Especially with the flu hitting us hard the week of Christmas. So, I didn’t have time to do my traditional solstice ritual and meditation. And yet it still came to me, as soon as I was nestled in bed on Solstice night. Whispered by the voice deep within, which I’ve admittedly been remiss at listening to lately. Continue reading “2017 Intention: Lighting the Creative Fire”
If you’ve been following along, you know that my next book is way beyond past due. I was planning to have it ready in June, July, August, and September (at which time I had to give up the ghost and accept it was going to be longer). There were too many other things going on that needed my attention this year, and my focus and energy were just sapped. The last several months have felt like a dream, and not a particularly good one. And yes, I’m talking about the election. Continue reading “Fall Writing Update – Through the Fog”
Where has the summer gone!?!?
I find myself asking this question yet again, despite the fact that every year I vow to make the most out of the sparkling gem that is a Pacific Northwest summer. They are brief, but breathtaking.
The last few months have been a whirlwind of moving, settling, socializing, and taking part in a beautiful wedding of a dear friend. My lover has been working OT like he’s saving for the end of the world, and I’ve been hoarding what time I have to myself to focus on my upcoming release and decompress.
