Plotting, Pantsting & Everything Inbetween

I can’t believe it’s November already!  Many of you are probably geared up or already diving in to your NaNoWriMo projects bursting with energy and ideas.  I decided this would be a perfect time to talk about one of the things that trips up a lot of new writers: plotting.

It’s an ongoing struggle, whether you’re writing your first novel, or your fifteenth, though most writers have figured out their plotting system after the first few completed books.  If you haven’t yet exactly figured out how to plot your story, or you’re like me and just collect different methods to try, or perhaps you’re not even sure what exactly this amorphous thing called plot actually is, this post is for you! Veil of Thorns ~ Cover Reveal!

I’m so excited to finally share this!!!

I’ve had it for months but wanted to wait until I was closer to release.  This is book 2 in my Skydancer contemporary fantasy series.  Teaser below.
VeilofThornsCover

When a fallen angel arrives on Oracle Briana Spurrier’s doorstep promising a way to free her true love from his cursed imprisonment, she’s willing to defy both Zyne Law and Cosmic order to strike a bargain with him.  But the journey will take her to the far reaches of the globe and into a spellbound forest that is the lair of an ancient and evil enchantress.

Bri will need her Wolfkinde Familiar–Lucas Moncrieffe–by her side if she hopes to survive, even though that means inviting a lover from centuries ago back into her life.  As Bri navigates the trickery of the savage immortal world, her power continues to grow and she faces the most frightening question of all: can she embrace what she is without becoming one of the monsters?

She’s a B*tch, She’s a Lover

With Wonder Woman dominating the box office this past summer and all of the AMAZING female protagonists we have in the mainstream and blowing up the fantasy genre, I thought it a perfect time to revisit a post I wrote back in 2008.  It’s heartening to see that in less than a decade, women in fiction have come so far. Little girls have so many female heroes to look up to now!

(PS: my money is STILL on Daenerys to rule Westeros #teamfireandice #motherofdragons )

But writing a “kickass” heroine can come with some pitfalls.  Make sure you watch out for them! Continue reading “She’s a B*tch, She’s a Lover”

How can readers and authors fight white supremacy?

I’ve struggled with how much I should say about politics on my author platform.  But sometimes, some things are too important to worry about how they will be received.  I’ve felt called again lately to say something.  Do something.  Anything.  It will be imperfect, I will probably stumble through it, but I will try. I’m going to broaden the topic to include diversity on the whole (sexual, ability, etc.) because this has been a hot topic in the publishing industry the past few years and what I will say here applies to that general conversation.
