Building a Character with MBTI

Creating characters that readers can connect with is the key to writing kingdom.  Stories are all the same.  Unique worlds, though numerous and sometimes extremely vivid, are all just variations on a theme.  Characters are the only part of writing that can be truly unique and original.  Characters sell the story and the world and can stay with us long after the riveting action and intriguing backdrop have faded from memory.

So, how to write a unique and memorable character? Most of them don’t spring fully formed into a writer’s mind.  It takes some effort to create a multi-dimensional made-up person!  It’s definitely not as simple as giving them an interesting physical trait, tragic backstory, quirky saying or hard-to-pronounce name.

Winter Writing Update

I took a much-needed vacation in mid-November and once I came back, it was as if the wind had gone out of my sails. Not in a bad way! Actually it would be more accurate to say that instead of the hurricane frenzy I left in, I came back riding a nice subtle breeze.  So rather than try to gear up for a big push at the end of the year, I decided to just relax and let things flow. She’s a B*tch, She’s a Lover

With Wonder Woman dominating the box office this past summer and all of the AMAZING female protagonists we have in the mainstream and blowing up the fantasy genre, I thought it a perfect time to revisit a post I wrote back in 2008.  It’s heartening to see that in less than a decade, women in fiction have come so far. Little girls have so many female heroes to look up to now!  

(PS: my money is STILL on Daenerys to rule Westeros #teamfireandice #motherofdragons )
